WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERVICE? - This service is extremely useful if you have a hard drive that is on the verge of failing, or if you want to transfer all of your data to a drive with a greater storage capacity than your existing drive.  It would be wise to obtain a new hard drive if your existing hard drive is making strange noises or errors occasionally.  Please note, this service is NOT a 'data recovery service'.  Data recovery is a professional service that can be extremely expensive and therefore it is not a service that we offer.

NOT SURE IF YOUR DRIVE NEEDS REPLACING? - At the bottom of this page you will find several audio files that play examples of different 'fault' sounds.  We have a selection of audio files covering drives from most of the major hard drive manufacturers.  Play the files that relate to the make of your existing hard drive.  If when you play the audio files you hear a sound that is similar to the sound that your drive makes, then it's time to purchase a new hard drive!

HOW DO WE TRANSFER THE DATA? - We have two different methods of transferring your data.  We will choose the most appropriate way of transferring the data which will depend on whether your computer is fitted with a 'USB' port or a 'RJ45' cabled network port.  For either option, you will need to obtain a new hard drive in advance of requesting the service.  You can purchase a new hard drive from one of the computer parts suppliers listed on our 'Buy Computer Parts' page.

The most important thing to remember about this service is that all of your original settings (software, hardware, data etc) will all be safe and copied over to the new hard drive - without your need to reinstall anything!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The Hard Drive Data Transfer service is only available on computers using a 'Microsoft Windows' based operating system (please note - at this time we are unable to transfer data on Vista/Windows 7 computers).  Your computer must be fitted with either a 'USB' port (preferably of the USB 2.0 standard) or a 'RJ45' cabled network port.  If your computer does not have a USB port and is only capable of being networked over a wireless connection, regrettably we will not be able to assist you.  We will require you to provide us with your Windows 'Recovery Disks' that would have been provided by your computer manufacturer along with the 'Administrator' account User ID and Password.  The recovery disks are required for initiating the transfer of data back from our server (for the RJ45 option) and for obtaining any machine specific hardware drivers (for the USB option).  Depending on how much data is on your hard drive, the transfer process could take several hours, therefore we will require your computer to be with us no later than 10:00am on the day that the transfer process is to be carried out.  If you have any questions about this service please contact us.  If you would like to know how much this service costs, please visit out 'Price List' page.  We will also require you to provide us with your 'desktop power cable and keyboard' or 'laptop power adaptor' so that we can check that your drive is working properly once the data transfer is complete.

WHY DO I HAVE TO OBTAIN THE NEW HARD DRIVE? - We operate in a way that is different to most computer repair companies.  Most computer repair companies keep parts in stock, which gives them much more expensive overheads which in turn keeps their prices high.  We do not keep parts in stock, therefore we can keep prices really low - saving you money!  We give you access to a number of computer parts suppliers on our 'Buy Computer Parts' page - simply identify the make / model of your existing hard drive and search for a replacement using the website of one or more of the retailers we advertise.  If you are not sure how to find the details of your existing hard drive, click .  If you have any problems trying to obtain the correct hard drive for your computer then please contact us.

IS YOUR HARD DRIVE MAKING STRANGE NOISES? - If it is, then you may be in need of a new hard drive.  Identify the make of your existing hard drive (If you are not sure how to do this click ) and listen to the relevant sound files for your drives manufacturer below.  If you hear a sound that is similar to the noise that your hard drive makes, you should obtain a new drive as soon as possible.  If you ignore the strange noises you may find that one day very soon your hard drive will fail completely, which will result in the loss of all data on your hard drive!
